M.D. Smith Construction was established in 2009 as a new construction and residential contracting firm. Beginning in 2011, the company grew to include multifamily and senior living construction and renovation services.
In 2016 the company began working on college campuses helping to upgrade classrooms, dorms, common areas and faculty offices during the summer season. Based out of Tampa Bay, M.D. Smith Construction has worked throughout Florida including Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, and Naples, we have also completed projects in Kentucky and Tennessee. The company has completed over 5,000 unit upgrades on multifamily, educational and/or senior living campuses. In addition to the living area work, we have assisted on multiple common area upgrades and new construction projects within those campuses and communities. The M.D. Smith Construction partners blend their residential and commercial experience to provide detail-oriented project management, with superior client services.
Brad Ellender graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Economics Degree in 2002. Brad began his construction career in 2005 working for a national home builder, building residential homes in Tampa, Sarasota, Atlanta and Hilton Head. He returned to Tampa Bay where he was hired by a commercial construction company as a project manager in 2011. He has extensive commercial construction experience, having worked on and completed large ground-up commercial projects with contract values up to $33 million. Prior to partnering with Mike, he primarily worked on senior and assisted living campuses focusing on renovations, upgrading facilities and infrastructure as well as ground-up construction for independent living and nurse care facilities.
Mike Smith is a University of Florida, Rinker School of Building Construction graduate with over 17 years of experience in residential and commercial construction. Mike started his career working for a national builder as a superintendent, and later project manager, building single family homes and multifamily projects in Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. He returned to Tampa in 2007 to work as a project manager for a contractor specializing in custom home, amenity center and light commercial construction. After becoming a certified building contractor, Mike established M.D. Smith Construction in 2009. Since that time, he has managed multifamily projects on over 40 properties with scopes of work including turn-key renovations, clubhouse renovations, exterior repainting and green upgrades.
